Class Descriptions
All of our Busy Bees & Lady Bug Classes are designed to incorporate creative movement and play into our classes while also teaching structure. These classes are all taught without the parent in the room. We have viewing windows for parents to see class if they would like.
Ballet:
The foundation of most modern day dance forms. This beautiful and demanding technique is a necessity for all young, aspiring dancers. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology.
Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum is based on a combination of the French, Vagonova and Cecchetti methods as students’ progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
This is a pre-requisite to Pointe and students must take Ballet or Jazz to take Acro.
Pointe:
All pointe classes are to be taken at the discretion of the teacher. A student must have 3 years of ballet training before taking pointe. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. A student must be enrolled in ballet while taking this class.
Each class includes barre exercises, and more advanced students will progress to center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. Students begin with pre-pointe when suggested by the teacher and progress when the body is strong enough. A student must be at least 11 years of age to be considered for pointe, but may start pre-pointe a bit earlier.
Pre-Pointe is taken with no pointe shoes and work is done on demi-pointe (half toe). Teacher will evaluate child at the end of their pre-pointe class.
Tap:
Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style, and sound. We pride ourselves in being a classic tap dance studio that teaches in a very sequential manner. Tap shoes are required for sound.
Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, musicality, and having fun.
As students’ progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Jazz:
Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique and are a high energy class.
Class curriculum includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolation’s, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. Dancer’s learn leaps, turns, kicks, and jumps. Students learn to incorporate style to their movement, and develop strength, stamina, and flexibility.
As students’ progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Lyrical:
Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motions that tell a story. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through movement.
This class is offered by invite only. A student must be enrolled in ballet or jazz while taking this class.
Acro:
Acro is not the typical tumbling or gymnastics class. Acro is more fluid than gymnastics. Our experienced acro instructor will guide the class towards increased flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration.
This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such skills as handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance and contortion tricks, all each student’s individual level of experience. And it’s fun, too! All students enrolled in acro must be enrolled in ballet or Jazz while taking this class.
Hip Hop:
Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking.
Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves.
Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.
Mom & Me: This is a playgroup for interaction with others. It is geared towards crawling toddlers up through age 2.5. This class is an introduction to a structured class. Class will begin with a small circle time introduced with song and movement, and lead into free play on the trampoline, & the balance beam with the added help of mom or dad (or any caregiver). We also use instruments, parachute play, and balls. There are crawl through tunnels, and mats for tumbling.
